Galentine’s Day Event Brings Together Women Who Show Love Through Giving Back

Over 50 Dedicated Volunteers Party and Pack Pasta at the Maryland Food Bank

On February 13 – otherwise known as “Galentine’s Day” – dozens of dedicated female volunteers showed their love for Marylanders facing food insecurity. Galentine’s Day sets aside time, one day before Valentine’s Day, for women to celebrate special friendships with their female friends. The volunteer group included Maryland Food Bank board members Rachel O’Neill, Mary Frances Isakov, and Alia Kemet.

The first-ever Galentine’s Day volunteer event provided a chance for dedicated supporters of the food bank to mingle, getting to know one another while packing pasta for neighbors facing hunger. The group packed 2,160 pounds of pasta, enough to feed a neighbor in need three meals per day for an entire month. Volunteers also sampled treats prepared by the food bank’s FoodWorks program, a menu that featured chicken and waffles, personal charcuterie boards, and assorted desserts.  end story icon

“Whether it’s through volunteering, donating, or using your voice to spread awareness, we all have the ability to create change. When women come together, we build and transform communities. Let’s continue to pour into one another and honor our past, present, and future by becoming the change we want to see.”
